Wrong Place

04/12/2020

Presenting something a little different here! For episode 92 and 93 Passing Notes played host to two guest mixes from Wrong Place.
Wrong Place is a lesser known project of Melbourne music stalwarts James Tom (Edge Worker DJ, Krakatau) and Simon Barry (Mousse, Misty Nights). With broad-reaching success in all of their endeavours, JT and Simon are wholly dedicated to making Melbourne music the best it can be; from stunning jazz tinged improv band Krakatau to the steamy esteemed disco parties Misty Nights, the pair are vanguards of their craft.
Their project Wrong Place was born out of a time where the pair found themselves somewhat disillusioned about life and music. Bonding over a shared love for funk, prog rock, experimental new wave and electronic music they found themselves chasing what they’ve termed a ‘Hard n Fruity’ sound. Progressively moving towards the more industrious sounds of new beat and EBM they were also inspired by mixing non-dance music to create a parallel energy like that of the Italian cosmic masters. Their first offering as Wrong Place slipped through the cracks – a two-sided tape that was meant to be released on Far Away Tapes which unfortunately was never released. Despite the years gone by, the two mixes are naturally timeless, a true sign of their dedication to digging deep.
Lucky for me, JT approached me with the idea to broadcast the two mixes over the course of two Passing Notes episode. Both mixes are presented here as Part 1 and Part two, or originally sides A and B. Broadcast live on PBSfm 4/12/2020 and 11/12/2020
